Book Review: The Unhoneymooners

Book review: The Unhoneymooners

I loved reading this book. The Unhoneymooners is an enemies-to-lovers rom-com packed with loads of humour, witty remarks, and wonderful characters. I totally recommend it!

The Unhoneymooners, by Christina Lauren

Ami and Olive Torres are twins. Though they look exactly identical on the outside, they couldn’t be more different. Ami has always been the lucky one. She has won almost every item needed for her wedding, from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the buffet. Olive, on the other hand, seems to be chronically jinxed with bad luck.

But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating some bad shellfish, Olive is one of the two lucky people left standing. The other one being the groom’s brother, Ethan, who also happens to be her arch-nemesis. Resentfully, they agree to go on the non-refundable honeymoon on behalf of Ami and her husband, with the hope of seeing very little of each other during their trip.

However, when they realize some unwelcome acquaintances are staying exactly at their same hotel, they must act as the newlyweds everybody expects them to be. The weird thing is… Olive doesn’t really mind playing pretend. As a matter of fact, the more she fake-dates Ethan, the more she wishes she could get to know him better.

“Heartfelt and funny, this enemies-to-lovers romance shows that the best things in life are all-inclusive and nontransferable as well as free.”

Kirkus Reviews on The Unhoneymooners

Personal Comments

The Unhoneymooners was the first of Christina Lauren’s books I read, and it was amazing! I loved every part of it. From the paradisiacal setting to the sarcastic, witty dialogues between the characters, everything was thoroughly enjoyable. Even though the plot is quite predictable, that didn’t stop me from getting lost in Ollie’s and Ethan’s complicated but pure love story.

I came to love almost all of the characters deeply, in particular Olive. She is not the typical dazzling heroine you would expect in any rom-com, but just an honest, sensible girl who wants what’s best for her sister. Plus, I also admire her personal growth near the end of the story. It was not only valuable but also delightful to read.

If you are looking for a comfortable read you can finish in just a few days, or even a whole afternoon, you should definitely read The Unhoneymooners. It will probably leave you feeling all giddy and blissful, and will surely make you laugh in the process! You can find it on Amazon and Book Depository. I hope you enjoy it!
